A vintage hand-carved Syrian wall shelf in walnut, inlaid with 100% natural mother of pearl. Inlaid shelves like this one are built by the same method as the larger Syrian furniture — shell cut into geometric and floral patterns and set into the timber one fragment at a time, so the colour shifts from white through iridescent pinks and blues as you move past it.
The shelf is 7 in (18 cm) deep and 19 in wide, enough for small vases, figurines, plants, books or framed photographs. It is the quietest way into mother of pearl decor — inlay for a room that has no space for a chest or a table.
