A large handwoven wool tapestry in the classic French Aubusson verdure tradition: a wooded landscape of layered trees opening onto a distant river and hills, framed by a deep floral and fruit border with a ribboned cartouche at the crown. The palette is the one collectors look for in verdure work — soft moss and olive greens, warm ochre, cream, and touches of rose and teal that keep the foliage alive rather than flat.
Woven by hand in wool on a cotton warp, with the colour blocks and hatching worked stitch by stitch rather than printed. The weave has real weight and hangs flat, and reads beautifully in a hallway, above a sofa, or over a mantel, where its tall wooded view can breathe.
