A field of sunflowers on a turquoise ground, with swifts wheeling across the top of the panel and a pair of white geese standing in the grass below. The flower heads are worked in every direction — face-on, in profile, half-closed — and in a dozen shades from lemon to burnt orange to deep maroon, which is what keeps a repeated motif from ever looking repeated.
Handwoven in wool on cotton warp, freehand, with a knotted fringe at both ends. The turquoise is the piece's real character: it makes the yellows sing and reads well in a white or neutral room that needs one strong note.
