HANDWOVEN EGYPTIAN WOOL TAPESTRY — SIGNED SUNFLOWERS AT SUNSET — ONE OF A KIND

The boldest of our sunflower weavings: a sky of blazing sunset red behind tall sunflowers in gold, orange, and honey, their leaves woven in deep teal and jade. A black bird perches on a drooping seed head, doves fly and rest among the stems, and below, a lively gathering of birds and ducks moves through flowering bushes of powder blue and lime. Every petal, leaf, and feather is woven freehand in the flat slit-tapestry technique — no printing, no machine, no pattern to copy, just dyed wool and the weaver's eye, line by line.

The piece is signed by the weaver in Arabic, woven directly into the fabric — the living tradition of Egypt's celebrated village tapestry weaving. This is one of three sunflower tapestries by the same weaver in our shop — on sunset red, deep blue, and rose pink — each entirely unique.

An original textile artwork. The natural wool texture, slit-weave joins, and warp fringe at the edges are the signatures of true handweaving. Small irregularities are the hand of the artist, not flaws.
