A village idyll in wool: two black-faced sheep grazing beneath a blossoming tree, ducks and geese on the blue water below, date palms and a flowering acacia rising against an orange sun. The foliage is worked leaf by leaf in overlapping greens, which gives the whole panel a depth that flat weaving never has.
Handwoven in wool on cotton warp by an Egyptian village weaver, freehand, with a knotted fringe at both ends. The orange sky and deep greens make this an easy piece to build a room around.
