26" Palm Tree, Birds and Ducks Handwoven Tapestry, Egyptian Wool Wall Hanging, Natural Dye Art
A date palm heavy with fruit on a pale gold ground, birds perched all around it and ducks paddling through the blue river that runs down one side.
This tapestry is woven entirely by hand on a traditional wooden loom in Egypt, in handspun wool coloured only with natural plant dyes. What makes these weavings rare is the way they are made: the weaver works with NO prior sketch, no cartoon and no drawing of any kind behind the warp. Every tree, bird and figure is improvised straight onto the loom as the piece grows. Nothing is copied and nothing is repeated, so no two works are ever alike and each one is a true original rather than a reproduction.
The natural dyes give deep, soft colours that age beautifully, never look printed, and are completely eco-friendly. The piece is signed by the artist in the weave.
