Teardrop Pendant with Arabesque Cutwork
A tall teardrop of solid brass, 12 inches across and 24 inches high. The narrow top is pin-punched with rows of tiny dots that form diamonds and pentagons. Below a dotted band at the waist, the wide lower body is opened up with large hand-cut arabesques: curling leaves and flame-like points. When it is lit, the small dots throw a fine scatter of light near the ceiling while the big openings cast bold shapes down the walls.
At two feet tall it wants a little headroom. It works well over a kitchen island or dining table, in a stairwell, or in an entry with a high ceiling, where the shadows have room to spread.

How It Is Made
The pattern is laid out and cut by hand: the fine dots are punched one at a time and the larger openings are cut out piece by piece. Because of that, the spacing and shapes vary slightly from one pendant to the next.
