HANDWOVEN EGYPTIAN WOOL TAPESTRY — SIGNED WATER CARRIER — ONE OF A KIND

A woman crosses the dry land with her water jar, and the weaving makes her monumental: her coral-rose gown falls straight as a column, gold earrings glint beside her dark hair, and her black abaya lifts and billows behind her like wings against the desert wind. Beyond her stretch the sand hills, a white-domed shrine, the dark palm groves along the water, and a bare tree on the parched bank — the whole landscape holding still around her stride.

What makes this piece truly extraordinary is how it was made: the weaver works without any guide on the loom — the sweep of that black cloak, the fall of the rose gown, the light on the clay jar, all improvised in thread as the weaving grows. Human figures are the greatest challenge in handwoven tapestry, and this is figure-weaving at full power. No two pieces are ever alike; each tapestry is a one-of-a-kind expression of the weaver's artistic genius.

The piece is signed by the weaver in Arabic, woven directly into the fabric — the living tradition of Egypt's celebrated village tapestry weaving.

HANDWOVEN — ONE OF ONE
An original textile artwork. The natural wool texture, slit-weave joins, and warp fringe are the signatures of true handweaving. Small irregularities are the hand of the artist, not flaws.

WHERE IT WORKS
A commanding presence for a living room, dining room, entry hall, or office — the dark cloak and coral gown hold a wall the way a painting does. Equally at home in traditional, modern, and eclectic rooms. One of one; when it's gone, it's gone.
