VINTAGE HANDWOVEN EGYPTIAN WOOL TAPESTRY — SIGNED VILLAGE SCENE
A genuine handwoven wool tapestry from Egypt: village women in flowing dress carry water jars and baskets of fruit on their heads along the riverbank, a herdsman drives his water buffalo and calf, and behind them the great triangular sails of feluccas fill the sky. Every figure, sail, and shadow is woven by hand in the flat slit-tapestry technique — no printing, no machine, just dyed wool and a weaver's judgment, line by line.
The piece is signed by the weaver in Arabic, woven directly into the fabric — the hallmark of Egypt's celebrated village tapestry-weaving tradition, whose finest works hang in museums worldwide.
HANDWOVEN — NOT A REPRODUCTION
This is an original one-of-a-kind textile artwork. The natural wool texture, slit-weave joins, and warp fringe at the edges are the signatures of true handweaving. Small irregularities are the hand of the artist, not flaws.
